Boston Against the World

There are going to be two groups of people watching the Stanley Cup Final. People who live in New England and want to see the Bruins win and the entire rest of the world who want to see them lose.

It's no secret that Boston has been spoiled over the last 20 years. There have been 12 victory parades since the Patriots Super Bowl win in 2001. The Pats have won it 6 times, the Red Sox 3 times, the Celtics and Bruins 1 time.

It's not always great though. Occasionally Boston loses a championship game. The Patriots have lost 3 Super Bowl's in the last 20 years, along with the Celtics and Bruins each losing one. So we aren't that spoiled!

Last night another Boston team punched their ticket into the finals. My favorite of all four (truthfully the only other team I really care about is the Patriots).

When the Bruins won the cup in 2011 I had just graduated high school and was 17 years old. It's my fondest sports memory. In 2013 when they lost in the cup final I was 20 years old. Now, in 2019 I am 25 years old, ready to see them take home another.

Carolina was outplayed in every aspect of the Eastern Conference Final. Their PP was abysmal and their veteran captain, who has three Stanley Cup rings himself, was making dumb decisions and taking a lot of penalties.

I was proven right once again when Tuukka Rask had an outstanding playoff series. His numbers are right up there with Tim Thomas in 2011 and he's done it without jumping and flopping around like Thomas was known to do. That's the thing about goaltending. Just because Rask isn't making these acrobatic saves like Thomas doesn't mean he's not as good. In fact Rask is better than Thomas statistically. That's a fact backed up by numbers.

Every fanbase is now rooting against us. They hate Boston because we are spoiled. The truth is 99% of Boston hate comes from the Patriots. They're the real Boston dynasty. The Bruins have been impressive in this century, making the playoffs 16 out of 20 times, but through all of that they have a series of first round exists and one Stanley Cup win in 47 years. They're not a dynasty but I wish they were.

Now the rest comes. A potential nine days off is ahead for the Bruins. It's a scary thought for a team that has been rolling. A rest is not necessarily a good thing, especially for a hot goaltender in a groove. I have hope though. I still believe that we are better than both the Blues and the Sharks.

I want this cup. Not only is it amazing to see your team win but it's also hilarious to see the insane amount of salt that comes from the rest of the sports world. Go Boston! Let's make the rest of the world miserable once again!
