This video made me feel like a grouchy old man

For some weird reason people like to watch other people reacting to things. One of the biggest channels on YouTube is just people of various ages, genders and ethnicities sitting down and reacting to music, movies, and tv shows from a generation before or after the one they were born in.

I would like to say I'm above watching these, but I'm not. They're totally addicting.

Recently I stumbled upon a video called "Do Teens & College Kids Think Seinfeld Is Funny?" I'm not here to argue whether or not Seinfeld is funny. I happen to love it. For some people it's really not their cup of tea. I've met plenty of adults who were the target demographic when Seinfeld was on the air and they don't seem to find it funny at all. Although I think these people are dead wrong, they're entitled to their opinion.

The real title of this video should have been, "Do Teens & College Kids Think Seinfeld is Offensive?" They spend most of the video talking about how certain plot lines could "never be done today", which might be the dumbest take ever considering there are much more vulgar shows airing today. Some examples include, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Family Guy, Rick and Morty, South Park, the list could go on and on and on.

Jerry Seinfeld has said in recent years that he won't perform at college campuses anymore because he feels that college students are too easily offended. I always thought he was just an out of touch old man with this statement, but after watching this video I can totally see where he is coming from.

The entire premise of Seinfeld revolves around the fact that these characters are self-centered narcissistic people. Them being insensitive human beings is literally the joke. I can't think of a single episode of Seinfeld that would considered offensive and should not air today. Larry David is as liberal as they come. He even has a scene in Curb Your Enthusiasm where he stops hooking up with a woman because she has a picture of George Bush in her dressing room.

Dear kids in this video,

Lighten up. If you're offended by Seinfeld you're going to have a very very tough and sheltered life. In comedy there are very few things that are off limits and this show may have been pushing the boundaries for it's time, but it certainly doesn't seem to be pushing the boundaries of today's television. We are cool with watching a chemistry teacher cook meth and murder people but making a joke about George and Jerry being gay is totally over the line. Give me a break.

For the first time in my life I had a "these damn kids today" moment and I really didn't like it. I don't believe that teenagers today are all like this. This channel definitely takes the most stereotypical teenagers and throws them on camera to give their over the top self righteous reaction. Having said that, I highly recommend binge watching Seinfeld on Hulu when you have the time. It certainly holds up.
