Vinnie Ortez
I'm going to start off this article by saying that Kingdom Hearts 3 is not coming out this year. With the recent purchase of my Switch, Gamestop had the list of all games coming out this year. Thumbing through the pages, gathering inspiration for this article, KH3 was printed to be coming out 12/31/18. A placeholder release date that only further ticked off this dedicated fan who has been waiting 13 YEARS FOR THE NEXT GAME. I digress. There are many more titles coming to the PS4 to more than satisfy my grudge against Square Enix. Though there are many that I'd like to talk about, here are my top 5 PS4 games to lookout for;
5. Far Cry 5
In honor of FC5 coming out today, I had to mention it. The first Far Cry game I played was Primal and though I'm a novice to the world, I absolutely loved it. A gripping story and great gameplay combined with taming animals and perks. This new one seems to take all of those features and put them in a Montana setting with fanatical rednecks part of the cult called Eden's Gate. Weapons and destruction are the specialties of these games and one can only wonder what it will be like in a setting with flamethrowers and unnecessary amounts of guns. Along with taming wild bears and cougars, you're companion is man's best friend. He's healed with tummy rubs and fetches you weapons along with taking down bible-loving hicks.
4. God of War
I cannot begin to explain how excited I am for this new pivot for God of War. Everyone knows the classic gruesome hack and slash game thats been a household title for Playstation. However this reimagining of the series has me speechless. The graphics and scenery, obviously meant to flaunt the PS4's abilities, are jaw dropping. I'm sure you've seen the GIANT BEARDED SERPENT?! Along with a new fighting style, Krato's has his son with him. Handy with a bow and arrow, it will be an important aspect to the game whether he's helping or getting in the way. I'm hoping the elements from the old games like gathering of amazingly cool weapons and treasures will be present as well.
3. Detroit: Become Human
For all you niche gamers who remember the classic PS3 killer mystery Heavy Rain, comes another story-driven and consequence based game from the same studio, Detroit: Become Home. Taking place in a not-so far off future, the game followers three androids. Kara, who has become sentient and escaped the factory she was built in. Markus, a freedom fighter who is devoted to freeing other androids. And finally Connor, an android built to hunt down rogue droids. If you're a fan of any Telltale games, this is absolutely for you. The story adapts to the choices you make and sometimes that might mean continuing on after one of the three protagonist has meant their end. That was your bad bro.
2. Spider-Man
Being your local Spider-Man expert, I have had dreams about finally playing this game. It debuted at E3 last year and it's going to be the best Spidey game yet. I'm excited to see how beautiful swinging through New York City will be since last playing Web of Shadows on Xbox 360. His suit looks original and cool as all hell, talk of more unlock able suits just gets me giggling. One thing that is absolutely cool from a comic book point of view is that finally we have Kingpin not the main gangster bad guy. Mr. Negative is a newer villain to the Spider universe and has conflictions that connect to modern day. I have nothing but high hopes for everything from the suit to a peek at Miles Morales with a possible gameplay of the youthful second generation to take on the title of Spider-Man!
1. Red Dead Redemption 2
Every. Single. One of you should be excited for this game. The original western GTA, Red Dead Redemption, has been a favorite to many gamers including myself. The first Red Dead was something I had no idea could be so gripping. One thing that always surprises me about Rockstar is their ability to create such immersive stories and characters. Aside from a scenery that looks so real it gives me goosebumps, the open world looks like it will push the very meaning of the genre. The posters and promo photos point to that you play a character part of the Dutch's Gang. A gang John Marston was a part of. I am so ready to put on the bandana and perform robberies and exciting train heists that I can hopefully do online with friends. I IMPLORE YOU to preorder this game.
Honorable mentions; Vampyre, Ghost of Tsushima, Owlboy, Conan Exiles, A Way Out, Metro Exodus, The Inpatient
