Dear Tuukka Rask haters,
Stop. Stop your hot takes on Rask being soft. Stop saying that we should trade him. Stop saying that we will never win a Stanley Cup with Tuukka in net. You’re wrong.
I hear it all the time on the radio and I read it in uninformed Facebook comments on the Boston Bruins page. People are constantly complaining that Rask is soft and he can’t handle a big game. They want him out of town now. When you ask these people who they would like to trade Tuukka Rask for they usually don’t have an answer. Rask is good and has been good.
It’s easy to blame a loss on a goalie. When the other team scores more goals it must be because the goalie let too many in, right? Well not really. There are plenty of nights where Rask and Khudobin have been left out too dry by their defense. Some of the recent games are a good example of that. Last night’s win over Minnesota can be completely credited to Rask. He stole the first period.
You can’t compare Rask to 2011 Tim Thomas. It’s just not fair. Thomas was out of his mind that year and it’s unlikely that we’ll ever see a performance like that again from a Bruins goaltender. He held the Canucks to eight goals in seven games. It’s absolutely insane. To ask Rask to steal a series for you like that is just unrealistic.
Is Rask worth seven million a year? Probably not. Is any goalie? Probably not. But Rask is good and at times he looks elite. I would take him over most goalies playing in the NHL today. I trust a rested Rask. Khudobin has allowed Tuukka to get the rest he needs heading into the playoffs this year and that gives me a lot of hope.
The Bruins have the second fewest goals allowed this year with 187. The only team ahead of them are the Nashville Predators who have Pekka Rinne, a guy that will probably win the Vezina Trophy this year.
So do me a favor Rask haters, stop watching the Bruins. I can’t take your complaining in a winning season. Your opinion on Tuukka Rask is wrong.
